The Process of Smudging With Sage
The ritual of smudging originated in the Native American culture. Smudging can be done to cleanse one’s aura, space, and/or crystals. Burning sage is thought to cleanse people and spaces of negativity to then promote healing, wisdom, and longevity.
Step by step process:
- Open a window or door to allow for the smoke and negative energy to leave
- Light an incense for some good vibes (optional but highly recommended)
- Create an intention that focuses on what you want to release and what you want to invite in
- State a mantra that reflects the intention you come up with
- Light the sage and allow the smoke to thicken in the air
- Use your hand or a feather to fan the smoke. If you are smudging yourself, you should start at the crown chakra and and move downwards to the root chakra. If you are smudging a room, allow the smoke to fill your space and direct the smoke and negative energy outside. If you are cleansing your crystals, allow the smoke to surround your crystals and direct the smoke outside
- Ensure you are stating your mantra over and over while fanning the smoke
